Rubber and Teflon O-Rings

S-B industries offers a wide variety of rubber and teflon O-rings. Rubber O-rings are the most widely-used type. Synthetic rubber can be compounded for continual use at high or low temperatures or for occasional short exposure to wide variations in temperature. The effect of temperature changes from –65 degrees to 250 degrees Fahrenheit on the performance of O-ring seals and depends upon the seal material used.

Teflon O-rings are recommended where the seal will be exposed to frequent temperature variations, or to temperatures outside the range of rubbers. TFE (or Teflon) maintains useful strength and toughness from –400 degrees to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. It does not become brittle and shatter at cryogenic temperatures, nor degrade at elevated temperatures.
