Features of the speckFINDER

Ergonomic Microscope Design

While traditional microscope work requires the head and arms to be held in a forward position and inclined toward the microscope with rounded shoulders… a posture that can irritate soft tissues like muscles, ligaments, and disks; the speckFINDER is designed to be ergonomic, easy to use and compact - a completely new concept for low- power magnifiers, video or otherwise. Its high-resolution CCD camera is mounted on the bottom of the unit with a large, high-resolution screen in the front. As you can see from this photo, it allows the operator to sit upright, in a natural position.

Unlike other video magnification systems, the speckFINDER needs no bulky add-ons to boost ergonomic comfort. It has been designed from the ground up to be both functional and comfortable.

Natural Line of Sight

The innovative design of the speckFINDER lets operators' hands and eyes work together making it ideal for precision manufacturing. The bottom-mount camera and high-resolution screen ensure line-of-sight is always directed towards the magnified object from a comfortable, natural posture.

The CCD camera and lens provide a huge nine-inch working distance across the magnification range, using either auto- or manual-focus.

Compact Design

Many computer microscopes are simply traditional microscopes that are connected to a camera and display monitor. The result is a bulky and inflexible unit that is not suited for most industrial or work environments.

In contrast, the speckFINDER incorporates the microscope, camera, and computer monitor into one compact piece of equipment. This combines with its 360° articulating arm to make it one of the most ergonomic and work space friendly computer microscopes.

There is also no need for a keyboard. The speckFINDER's multi-function mouse puts all of the controls at the users fingertips.

Flat Panel Display

The centerpiece of the speckFINDER is its large, full-color display. Its unusually wide viewing angles - at more than 130 degrees horizontal and 105° vertical - make it ideal for several people to view the image at the same time. And, unlike a typical computer microscope, this monitor can easily be moved when not being used.

Features include:

  • 6.4-inch TFT display
  • 480 x 234 resolution (112,320 pixels)
  • 480 TV lines
These connections effectively turn the speckFINDER into a microscope video camera ideal for demonstration and training purposes.

High Resolution CCD Microscope Camera

The speckFINDER's high-resolution camera has 768 (H) x 494 (V) Pixels - plenty for a clean output to a projector or image capture by a computer. As such, it is perfect for everything from documenting quality control issues to training new employees.

The long focal length lenses provides even greater flexibility in your workspace, with an in-focus working distance up to 9 inches.

Articulating Arm Options

At the request of our industrial clients, articulating arms were one of the first features added to the speckFINDER video microscope. This custom mounting system can be positioned with the touch of a finger and swings easily out of the way when it's not in use. Taking up only three inches of space, it is perfect for cramped plant environments. It's maximum flexibility in minimum space. speckFINDER's unique articulating arm rotates 360 degrees at each pivot point while the head unit is mounted on a 200 degree tilt mechanism. Adjust the unit for comfortable viewing from almost any angle.

The speckFINDER's articulating arms are available in two arm lengths. They are: 18 inches and 27 inches. A 6-way mounting kit is also included with every speckFINDER.

Mounting options include:
  • Desk edge clamp mount
  • Wall mount
  • Grommet hole clamp mount
  • Through-desk mount
  • Reverse wall mount
  • Panel system clamp mount

Multi-Function Mouse

Unlike many computer microscopes, all of the speckFINDER's functions are controlled with on-screen menus via it’s specially designed mouse. Adjustments are easy, often operated with one finger and one or two button clicks.

Easy to use menus guide users through the speckFINDER's many options.

One of the most popular features of the speckFINDER is the ease in which one can zoom in and out on a particular item. Other features can be changed very easily by using the following on screen menus:

  • Brightness
  • Sharpness
  • Shutter Speed
  • White Balance
  • Auto/Manual Focus
  • Color/B&W
  • Inversion
  • Mirror Image

Image Capture & Video Camera Capabilities

The speckFINDER provides connections to a variety of video devices for those needing to document their work. A composite video connector is included (with a standard RCA jack) for connections to any NTSC-compatible television. A VGA connector is also featured, allowing easy, straightforward connection to an LCD projector or to a computer for image capture (additional hardware may be required for image or video capture).
